The ancestor Jean Coste, Cotte Cotter or Side was one of the first inhabitants of the country. Its origin remains unknown although some believe he was born in Perche.

We know however that he attached himself to the work of Robert Giffard, first lord of Beauport. Thus he arrived in 1635 and settled on land granted by the Sieur Giffard.

He married, November 17, 1635, Anne Martin, who could be the daughter of Martin Galeran. This couple gave birth to 8 children of which 7 were married and became the ancestors of almost all French Canadians.

Martin Côté ensures its descent to the "BOUCHER.

The following year, the Sieur de Montmagny, governor of New France, he gave a location of an acre of frontage on the Grande Allee. In 1641, with his neighbor Noel Langlois, he undertook to provide the Company of New France, five hundred bales of hay for 80 livres.

In 1645, Lord Giffard officially bequeathed the land he occupied for ten years.

He receives at the same time a location one hundred fifty feet front by sixty feet deep at the Upper Town of Quebec. He sells his son, Pierre Soumandre at the passing of his marriage contract.

He died March 27, 1661 and was buried next to Quebec.

On his burial could read:

"The year 1661, March 28 hath been buried in the church Jean Coste former resident of this country died on previous day in his house."

Anne Martin will survive until December 4, 1684, when she was buried in Quebec.
